What's on

A typical week in Herräng

There is something in Herräng Dance Camp for every dancer around the world, whether you're here for the community, classes, parties, guests and teachers, cultural activities, or the beauty of nature – or perhaps the entire package. The image below will give you an approximate idea of the twenty-four-seven daily schedule during Herräng Dance Camp.

If you are curious about the details of each specific event, continue reading down below.

Schedule - A typical week in Herräng
Activities explained
Have you heard about the mythical Blue Moon Cabaret and the crazy Pub Nights, but you're not quite sure what they're really about? We will briefly explain each event, but remember, the only way to truly understand is by embracing the experiences in person.

More contests, performances, and spontaneous gems will pop up during camp, as Herräng Dance Camp is shaped by the curious minds of all participants. Don't miss out on this information during the Daily Meetings and information boards!
Cabaret Blue Moon

This show is created by participants for participants – it’s your opportunity to shine bright and share with everyone part of your culture, or even some special skill you might have. Feel like a star while our lovely staff takes care of everything related to logistics. And remember: “It doesn’t need to be good; it just needs to be short!”

Cultural activites

We would like to promote kindness through this camp – kindness towards others, but also towards yourself. There are no traditional classes on Wednesdays. Instead, take this time to sleep in and to take care of your body and mind. Go into the steaming sauna, relax on the beach, or take part in some of the fun cultural activities: a boat trip into the archipelago, a bike ride to a medieval church, a visit to a nearby ice-cream restaurant, a flamboyant cow safari, an excursion to the mines of Herräng… You can even organise your own activity and spread kindness to others!

Library Talk

For a handful of years, Herräng Dance Camp has offered a series of discussions, interviews, film shows etc., under the umbrella name of Library Talk from Saturday to Thursday. It usually lasts about an hour. This is the forum where the past meets the present, and where history moves into our contemporary setting.

Kaleidoscopic Library (Week 1 & Week 3)

A place for self expression, the Library offers a spectrum of moods and themes; a broader taste in dance music. Anything can happen when anything goes.

Meet & Greet for weekend classes

On Fridays at 18:15, right after check-in, all weekend pass participants are invited to a welcome meeting. The location will be announced later on. All kinds of information are going to be shared – the camp, the schedules, the events… Don’t miss this opportunity; this meeting will help you enjoy your weekend to the fullest. On Fridays at 18:15, right after check-in, all weekend pass participant are invited to a welcome meeting. Round table talks

These are espaces to share, to participate, to explore. Everyone is welcome to initiate these conversations, and with the help of a moderator we will immerse ourselves in any topics that are important to the community, to the dance, to the camp.

Theme night

These spectacular themed parties are the perfect dessert to round off the week wonderfully. Friday night, we will walk from the school area to the Folkets Hus in a festive mood and live music will embrace us throughout the evening. This will be the night to express our true selves in a respectful and safe environment. Click here to know what themes we will entertain this year.

Crash courses

These classes take place right before the Daily Meeting and are open to everyone, both for taking and teaching them. Each class will follow a specific theme, which will be announced the same day and will be related to a dance or other body expression.

Daily Meeting

Daily Meetings are performed at 21:00 every evening from Saturday until Thursday every week. Following a talk-show format, you will be able to get the news from what has happened during the day and what is to come, get educated about swing dance and African-American culture and history, watch some astounding performances and competitions, and even catch on some camp tales!

Live band nights

They will be signalled on the program with a red star, at least three times per week.  Everyone wants to dance to the amazing bands that visit us, so this is a perfect chance to practise your floorcraft technique.

Meet & Greet for first-timers

Is this your first time at Herräng Dance Camp? We want to help you get a better grasp of what and where camp is, the events we host, and even some useful tips to make your stay more enjoyable. This is your chance to ask all the questions you have had in mind and to be ready to plunge headfirst on all the fun that the week awaits you. Join us on Saturday at 20:00, right before the first Daily Meeting.

Pub Nights

Pub Nights will be signalled on the program with a yellow star. If you have had a long day of classes and you don’t feel like having a crazy night swinging, or if you want to warm up with some live music before going social dancing, this is your spot. Grab a beer and let The Frankie Manning’s Väg Serenaders transport you to their coconut island. Cosy up at the Heaven’s Kitchen dining area right after the Daily Meeting, shower yourself in mosquito repellent, and bring yourself a good coat or even a blanket – the air is as fresh as the Serenaders’ tunes.

The Ramble (Week 3 only)

Five nights a week, an illustrious themed party will take over one of the three dance floors starting at midnight until the last dancer is standing – slow drag, latin, be-bop, rhythm & blues and more. Don’t miss the opening shows to some of these evenings; they set the tone for what is to come! Be there or be square!

Frequently Asked Questions
How to register as a single

1: Please log onto your existing My Herräng account, or create an account if you do not already have one. For the latter, an activation link will be sent to your email; follow the link to complete the account registration. Once you have fulfilled the procedure around your activation link, it will be possible to register for any of the available courses.

2: Once you have successfully registered for a course, one of two different scenarios will occur:
a) You will receive an email confirming that your registration has been accepted. If so, please follow the instructions sent out.
b) You will receive an email saying that your registration is on the waiting list: this is because the course has already sold out or is not balanced between leaders and followers. Please don't worry: as soon as we will open up more classes or as soon as the imbalance reduces, you are moved off the waiting list and into the course. This will happen automatically and if/when you are moved off the waiting list, you will receive an email to let you know that you have a place and when it's time to pay the registration fee to confirm your place. Please also keep in mind that if you register as a couple, you will automatically skip the waiting list, as long as the course is not sold out.

3: Please pay the registration fee through your My Herräng account under the Payments tab. Please also notice that the registration fee is not necessarily refundable - check our Refund Policy for the details.

How to register as a couple

Please note that only one of you needs to register, but the registration demands your partner's name and email address, and that both of you have an account on My Herräng. Couple registrations will always skip any existing waiting list but must be for the same course and same week; if one of you needs to cancel later on, both of you will be cancelled (if another person wants to keep the registration , please contact us at info@herrang.com for help).

Registration fees have to be paid separately through the individual My Herräng accounts.

Are you short of money to cover the registration fee?

Please contact our office at info@herrang.com as soon as possible to sort out possible alternative solutions.

I changed my mind, I want to book a different course than I already registered for. How can I do that?

If you have not paid the registration fee yet, you can cancel your registration yourself by going to your “Courses” in your My Herrang account and clicking on “Cancel”. Afterwards you can register for a different course. If you have already paid the registration fee, you can’t cancel your registration yourself. Please contact us via info@herrang.com and we will help you to sort things out.

In which way can I pay for what I have booked?

The only method of payment we currently offer is by credit card. If you don’t own a credit card you can ask a friend or family member to help you out. If you can't find a solution, please write an email to info@herrang.com and we will figure it out together.

How do I use my HDC discount code/voucher?

When logged into your My Herräng account, navigate to Payments and find the Vouchers/Discount section where your potential discounts or vouchers will automatically appear. These discounts are applicable to cover expenses for courses, party passes, and even registration fees. In your My Herräng account under Payments, you can locate your vouchers. To utilize them, mark the positions you wish to pay for with the discount code and click "Apply now." It's essential to note that vouchers can only be used to pay for classes or party passes. If your voucher exceeds the amount you're paying, it needs to be split; otherwise, it will be fully used. Reach out to us at info@herrang.com, and we'll assist in splitting your voucher.

Can I transfer my voucher to someone else?

Yes, this is possible as long as the person has a My Herräng account in our registration system. Simply go to the “Payments” section in your My Herrang account and open the “Vouchers/Discounts” tab. All your old and recent vouchers are listed there. Click on “Transfer” and type in the full name and email address of the person that you want to transfer your voucher to.

Where can I get a receipt for my payment?

Receipts are created automatically with every payment you make. You can download them in the “Payments” section in your My Herrang account under “Receipts”.

I booked a spot, but unfortunately I can’t come to Herräng. I would like to sell it to someone else. How?

First of all - you need to find the person interested in buying your spot. If you have found someone, make sure that this person has created a My Herrang account and has registered for the exactly the same course and the same role (lead or follow) as you and hasn't paid for their spot yet. Please note that all the financial arrangements need to be done between the two of you. Whenever this is done, please contact us at info@herrang.com and we will make the necessary adjustments to transfer the registration in the My Herrang system.

What is your refund policy?

You can find our terms and conditions here.

Some final information around the registration process
  • A registration fee is to be paid within four days of your registration for all programmes in Herräng except Swing Kids and Swing Teens. Your registration is not complete until you have paid the registration fee.
  • Please remember the following about a potential change of course: if you have registered but have not paid the registration fee yet, please cancel your registration and then register for your new choice and perform your payment accordingly within four days. If you have registered and already paid your registration fee, please contact us at info@herrang.com
  • Concerning the lineup of teachers for the individual weeks: please always be aware that minor changes might very well occur. In addition, please also pay attention to the fact that it is impossible to schedule individual teachers to cover all programmes at all levels during any given week; instead, we have to designate some classes for certain teachers and some other classes for other teachers.
  • By registering for services through My Herräng and/or attending the event in any capacity, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined in our Privacy Policy.
