Lucy Falkner
Vancouver
Lindy Hop Lucy Falkner is a dancer, teacher, and performer most often found in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. She has an abiding and contagious passion for early jazz era music and dance: Charleston, Lindy hop, Blues, Tap, and related dances. In 2000, she traveled to West Africa to explore some of the roots of these dances and to find in herself the rhythm and soul to give her all to the dances that now govern her time and energy. An event organizer and leader in the Vancouver Lindy hop dance scene, Lucy has been teaching since 2001, and regularly travels to teach and perform. She has been the head instructor for Vancouver's premier jazz era dance school, Jungle Swing, since it's inception in 2003: writing curriculum and developing teachers, as well as teaching and administering class schedules. Students cite her clarity of communication, patience, accessibility, unshakable enthusiasm, and willingness to be a complete dork. Her teaching is aided by her continuing passion as a student, still seeking the rhythm and soul of jazz era dances and challenging herself with other dance forms (although ballet made her feel like she was in drag). Week 5 (Lindy Hop)
